This spring period is crucial in the vineyard care calendar. From late April to late May, the vine enters an intensive growth phase, which means the risk of disease increases simultaneously. Correct and timely intervention ensures healthy flowering and a high yield.
1. Preventive Treatment
In late April and May, the biggest threats are downy mildew and powdery mildew. Especially after rainy weather, it is essential to treat the vineyard with high-tech sprayers that distribute the chemicals evenly, even on the underside of the leaves.
2. Soil Cultivation and Mulching
During this time, weeds grow rapidly and compete with the vines for nutrients. Loosening the soil with a rotary tiller or shredding inter-row grass with a mulcher not only maintains cleanliness but also helps retain moisture in the root system.
3. Green Operations
In May, shoot thinning and vine training begin. This process is necessary for good vineyard aeration (ventilation), which in turn reduces the chance of fungal diseases spreading.
4. Equipment Preparation
Remember, delayed spraying often means lost harvest. Make sure your sprayer is in good working order, filters are clean, and nebulizers (nozzles) are properly calibrated.
